The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is excited to let you know about a program that is available for members of your community! ExplorAbility for Parkinson’s is a dance program which makes dance accessible to all ages and abilities and is focused on developing rhythm, body awareness, coordination, posture, alignment, and self-expression, all in a fun, creative and supportive setting. Participants are given the opportunity to explore dance techniques as well as various movement qualities. Current research suggests that dance encourages physical improvements in gait, posture, and balance along with social engagement and quality of life in people living with Parkinson’s Disease.
As we are unable to invite the community into our studios due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the RWB School would like to invite your patrons and community members to participate in a Free ExplorAbility for Parkinson’s Zoom class on Wednesday, December 9th from 1:00-2:00pm. To register for this free online class please visit our website at:
Upon registration, participants will receive a confirmation email containing the Zoom link where they will be able to access the ExplorAbility for Parkinson’s online class on December 9th at 1pm.
ExplorAbility for Parkinson’s classes are taught by longstanding RWB School Artistic Faculty member, Jacqui Ladwig. Since 2009, Ms. Ladwig has taught and developed the ExplorAbility program for adults with disabilities. Her experience working with youth and adults with disabilities in a dance setting includes her experience with organizations such as Rehabilitation Centre for Children, Trailblazers Life Choices, Special Olympics Manitoba, and Manitoba Wheelchair Association. Ms. Ladwig is currently a graduate student at the University of Manitoba pursuing a PhD. in Applied Health Sciences with a focus on Motor Learning and Control in relation to dance and disability.
We are looking forward to having the opportunity to utilise a virtual platform to share this amazing program with individuals from our local community, and those from farther away who otherwise might not have the chance to participate in the ExplorAbility for Parkinson’s program. The RWB School would appreciate your support in sharing this program with your patrons and encourage you to contact us for further information.
