Can you tell us little bit about your company/collective/school?

I established my company in 1990 and it is still going strong!

What are showing at DanceWeekend’19?

‘Krishna’s Mouth’, a work I created for myself in 2006 during a residency in Montreal.

Who are the performers/collaborators in this piece(s)?

Sonja Boretski will be dancing.

Can you talk about your creative process? What inspires you?

I take my inspiration from systems of information (science, mathematics), schools of thought (philosophy, history), and from creation in other media (visual art, poetry, literature), reinterpreting the essence of these sources as abstractions of either solitary experience or interpersonal relationships.

Please share your experience performing in a previous DanceWeekend and/or tell us what you are looking forward to at DanceWeekend’19?

In 2017 I was able to share works featuring dancers Sahara Morimoto and Kate Holden, and I found it a beautiful occasion to zoom in and showcase the artistry of individual performers.

What is one surprising or interesting fact about your company/collective/school?

Peggy Baker Dance Projects is Company-in-Residence at Canada’s National Ballet School.

Do you have any up-coming performances/events you would like to share?

We have a huge show going up in 6 cities: ‘who we are in the dark’ runs in Toronto February 21 – 24, presented by Canadian Stage. 7 extraordinary dancers and 2 stupendous musician/composers: Sarah Neufeld (violin) and Jeremy Gara (drums) both of Arcade Fire
