Dance Ontario Commissions for 2014

The Dance Ontario Commissioning Committee (James Kendal, Tina Nicolaidis, Yasmina Ramzy, Peter Ryan, Jennifer Watkins) are delighted to announce that the commissioned choreographers for 2013/14 will be Malgorzata Nowacka/MOTUS O Dance Theatre and Natasha Powell.
After a day of deliberations, the group selected these stellar creators from 23 applications.

Toronto's Economic Development Committee approved a recommendation to increase arts grants funding to Toronto Arts Council by $4 million in 2013. Funding recommendations totalling $2 million were also approved for other arts and culture programs including the Major Cultural Organizations and the Local Arts Service Organizations. The report will go to City Council for final approval on April 3.

The Dance Ontario Selection Committee (Peter Ryan, Jennifer Watkins, Yasmina Ramsay, Tina Nicolaidis and James Kendal) has chosen Gadfly (Apolonia Velasquez & Ofilio Portillo) & Benjamin Landsberg for Creative Partnership support for 2012!

Gadfly will create Stygmata, a work for six dancers performing on pointe to a score that mixes house with tracks by Dr. Draw. The piece challenges the fear faced when you dare to be different.

Landsberg will work with five dancers transforming a space into an imagined combative arena of identity synthesis.
