Can you tell us a little bit about yourself/your company?

My name is Zachary Nolan Seto. I am half Sri Lankan and Chinese. I love sharing stories through unique sounds, rhythms expressed through the canvas of the human body. I gave myself permission to dream and bring my visions to life from a young age. For me dance gives me the opportunity to bring together so many of my interests and issues I care about into one container for me to play, experiment and discover with. I love incorporating the element of entertainment along with an invitation to go deeper into the mystery of life and our existence. I also love fashion and have a lot of fun bringing all these aspects of myself into my creations.

What will you be sharing at DanceWeekend’22?

I’ll be sharing my creative partnership commission called Remembering Beyond Form.

How has the pandemic shifted your work as a professional dance artist?

As a professional dance artist, the pandemic has given me the opportunity to walk through all the parts of life being fully present, especially the challenging times of the pandemic and the lockdowns. As a creator it gave me the chance to heal and discover new interests, passions and find ways to share my own experiences on my journey. This time also allowed me to awaken to accessing the ancestral wisdom of my own lineage and create from a place of complete gratitude in dedication for my own existence in this world, and everyone who has come before me.

Please share what you are most looking forward to at Dance Ontario’s return to live performances at DanceWeekend?

I am really looking forward to witnessing live the creativity and beauty that will be birthed by each individual artist on the Dance Ontario’s stage. Being able to witness the artistry of our community is one of the most incredible things that I have missed over the last two years.

In 1 or 2 sentences, what does dance mean to you?

In my eyes Dance is a lifetime. A language. A universal method of translating dialogue between our existences and alternate realities. A form of storytelling that encapsulates what we have evolved to become in this lifetime. Dance to me is an intricate energy that speaks to the soul and has the ability to unite generations. Every experience in this life is one that we dance. A performance we play out. A story we choose to tell and dance allows us one way to do that.
