They will be performing on Saturday January 20 at 1:30pm!

About the program:

The 4-year BFA Performance Dance program at Ryerson University’s School of Performance is the most intensive and comprehensive undergraduate program of its kind in Canada. Delivered by a faculty with extensive professional experience and a passion for student development, the program has earned widespread respect throughout the professional dance community nationally and internationally.

Conservatory style, professional training in four dance disciplines – ballet, modern, contemporary and jazz – is combined with related studies in improvisation, composition, partnering, urban dance styles, music, acting, film and extensive creative work. A broad selection of specially designed academic courses are also integrated into the program including history of dance and theatre, anatomy, production, global theatre, entrepreneurship and many more.

Students are involved in multiple productions with opportunities to perform existing repertoire and original works, choreographed by acclaimed Canadian and international guest artists.

This comprehensive, in-depth approach to learning dance provides exceptional performance, teaching, and choreographic versatility. Prepared for a wide number of career opportunities, students graduate with a professional work ethic, technique, artistry and an established creative practice.

About the work:

Ryerson University’s School of Performance, Dance Program presents PULSE…version blue choreographed by Vicki St.Denys

Originally created in 2000, Pulse featured students of the Ryerson Dance Program and music by Art Blakey and Lou Donaldson. This new incarnation, now titled PULSE…version blue, was presented at Ryerson Dances 2017 and features one of the original compositions by Art Blakey and expands on that section of the piece by utilizing the entire track as it was originally composed and recorded live. Also featured is music by Duke Ellington and Charlie “Bird” Parker. Recordings are from the Blue Note and Savoy recording labels during the Bop, Cool Jazz and Hard bop eras.  Some original movement has been included alongside new choreography and interpretations/improvisations from this new cast of dancers.  PULSE…version blue was presented alongside video projections created by Shanshan Wang and a set co-designed by Simon Rossiter and Shanshan Wang, which we were not able to include in this performance.
