tiger princess dance projects (tpdp) founded by Yvonne Ng in 1996, values dance/movement as an important component of communication that allows us to understand ourselves, share with each other and express ourselves as multifaceted beings. Kurumi Yoshimoto, B.A. in Psychology is originally from Osaka, Japan. She also a recent graduate from School of Toronto Dance Theatre (STDT) created a short dance film called “縁-En-” for SummerWorks Festival in 2021. Morgyn Aronyk-Schell graduate of STDT and has danced for Kaeja d’Dance, the Citadel + Compagnie, Human Body Expression. Sierra Chin Sawdy, a graduate from Toronto Metropolitan University’s BFA Dance program has toured throughout Canada, Mexico, China and the UAE.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself/your company?

south east asian, peranakan chinese, immigrant from singapore. I have a B.A. and M.A. with research focus on Intergenerational Practice programming. I created and developed interdisciplinary arts programmed, Swallowing Clouds (2009) for youths and Moving Stories (2015) an intergenerational arts based programme for youth and senior citizens. The company tiger princess dance projects was founded in 1996.

How has the pandemic shifted your work as a professional dance artist?

Asking me to think outside of the box, and then further outside.

Please share what you are most looking forward to at Dance Ontario’s return to live performances at DanceWeekend?

sharing with a live audience, to feel their energy and experience. To be performing with other dance companies

Do you have any up-coming performances/workshops/events you would like to share?

Premiering a new quintet dance work, Wéi 成为, featuring Morgyn Aronyk-Schell, Johanna Bergfelt, Irvin Chow, Mairéad Filgate and Kathia Wittenborn and original music by Nick Storring. This has been a long process with the pandemic but we’re so thrilled to finally share with audiences. Opens July 28 to July 31 at Aki Studio Theatre. I’m also creating a new work, Sleeping, Tucked in the lonely Purple for 3 senior citizen actors that will premiere at the Toronto Fringe Festival from 6 July to 17 July.

In 1 or 2 sentences, what does dance mean to you?

dance offers connection and expressions on a community level, for me, it brings inner awareness, deep joy and expression
