We are 32 days away from Dance Ontario’s 25th edition of Dance Weekend!

Dance Ontario has partnered again this year with New Blue Dance to present an emerging artist/company at Dance Weekend. This year ACE Dance Theatre was selected. Catch them Sunday, January 21 at 1:30pm on the Dance Weekend stage

  1. Can you tell us little bit about your company/collective/school?

ACE Dance Theatre is a new and compelling contemporary dance company based out of Toronto. Founded by Liana Bellissimo and Tara Pillon, the company bridges the gap between authentic expression and physical performance. ACE Dance Theatre captivates audiences by showcasing and nurturing both the athlete and the artist within the dancer.  The company prides itself on its technical versatility drawing influences from ballet, modern, jazz, and urban techniques. ACE Dance Theatre collaborates with both local and external artists contributing to a unique and diverse company repertoire. We provide dancers, choreographers, and designers the opportunity to flourish, create, share and inspire.

  1. What will you be showing at DanceWeekend?

At DanceWeekend we will be presenting a contemporary dance titled “Awakening”.

  1. Can you talk about your creative process? What inspires you?

I am inspired by the endless possibilities of the human body. I am inspired by movement, conflict, and vulnerability. I am also inspired by what bodies can do when they are together in space. Physicality, emotion, and intention are always at the heart of my work.

  1. Do you have any other up-coming performances/events you would like to share?

We have our next company show at DanceMakers Centre for Creation February 1-3, 2018.

  1. What is one thing you love most about your dance community?

There are so many talented, humble, and dedicated artists that contribute to our dance community. It is a supportive community where artists of all different dance styles, ages, and backgrounds, often come together to watch each other’s work and are inspired by one another.

  1. What does performing at the 25th Annual DanceWeekend mean to you?

Performing at the 25th Annual DanceWeekend is an amazing opportunity for ACE Dance Theatre to present our choreography on the beautiful stage of Fleck Dance Theatre and to reach bigger, more diverse audiences. It is also an amazing opportunity to meet other artists, to perform alongside them, and to witness and be inspired by their work.

  1. What is one surprising/interesting fact about your company/collective/school?

We have “unagi” (Friends reference). Basically, we read each other’s minds all the time and often show up wearing the same thing, saying the same thing at the same time, and thinking the same.
