National call to Contemporary dance artists working in any genre or form

Dance Arts Institute’s Research Residencies facilitate artistic research within the field of Contemporary dance. They are intended to provide space and time for focused investigation, experimentation, analysis and knowledge sharing. Artist Researchers will have the opportunity to actualize, practice, disseminate and advance their knowledge and experience with participants from the broader Toronto and national dance communities*.

What do we mean by “research”? A research approach is to gain a specific new insight or piece of knowledge in the field. Research is informed by inquiry and is backed by purposeful experimentation with methodology; it is a systemic investigation into materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.

The purpose of the public workshop is to bring forward and share well developed and solid information and methodologies, gained from established research or at the tail end of your research phase, to advance the Artist Researcher’s practice and (ideally) the field itself.

Examples of research streams include, but are not limited to: wellness, creation, performance, other art forms, dance advocacy, and much more.

*Please note, this program is not connected to our Professional Training Program, though some of our students may choose to participate.
