Join renowned Brazilian dancer and choreographer Newton Moraes for an exciting workshop that delves into the diverse world of Brazilian dance. Explore a wide range of styles, including Orixás, Samba, and street dance, while benefiting from Newton’s extensive experience. With years of teaching at Ballet Creole, York University’s Dance Department (during his MFA in Choreography), and Humber College’s Acting for TV and Film and Theatre Departments, Newton brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his sessions. Newton’s workshops are known for their high energy, physicality, and intricate movements, making them both fun and educational. Plus, the workshop often features live percussion from his long-time collaborator, Walter Maclean—one of Canada’s most respected percussionists, with over 20 years of partnership.
I am a board member of the Dance Ontario Association, as well as the founder, choreographer, and artistic director of Newton Moraes Dance Theatre, a company founded in 1997. Newton Moraes Dance Theatre is known for its vibrant blend of contemporary dance and Afro-Brazilian culture, exploring themes of identity, spirituality, and social issues.
