Can you tell us a little bit about yourself/your company?
I am an Odissi dancer from Toronto. I am one of the senior students of Mrudanga by Enakshi and am currently learning from my guru, Enakshi Sinha. By profession, I am an elementary teacher in the French immersion program. I love being both a student and a teacher in different aspects of my life. I am so grateful to my family and gurus who have shared their passion for dance, which has helped me form my identity and love for dance as well.
What will you be sharing at DanceWeekend’25
I will be sharing an item from the Odissi repertoire. Batu Nritya is a pure dance which depicts the temple sculptures of Orissa into life. Batu brings out the technical details and sinuous aesthetics of Odissi.
Please share what you are most looking forward to at DanceWeekend?
I am most looking forward to meeting fellow dancers in the community and showcasing my love for Indian classical dance.
Do you have any up-coming performances/workshops/events you would like to share?
I am always open to any collaborations with other artists and look forward to hosting Odissi 101 workshops.
What does dance mean to you?
Dance means forgetting about everything else and being fully present in the moment. Dance is empowerment and expression of one’s self.
