Dr. Lisa Sandlos is a faculty member in the School of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, Faculty of Education, Department of Dance, and the School of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at York University in Toronto. She also teaches at the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education and works as a research associate in Child and Youth Studies at Brock University. Her research focuses on the impacts of sexualization of young female dancers, on public perceptions of dance and on girls’ psychological and social development. Together with Rennie Tang, Associate Professor of landscape architecture at California State Polytechnic University Pomona, Dr. Sandlos is the co-director of Soma-City, a collaborative education/research organization. Working through the National Ballet of Canada, the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto District School Board, and Guelph Youth Dance, Sandlos has taught modern dance and creative movement to all ages/levels. Her qualification as a Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) through the Laban Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS) equips her to work with individuals and groups with diverse needs and interests. It has been a pleasure for Dr. Sandlos to serve on the board of directors of Dance Ontario since 2021.
