The Canadian Dance Assembly has announced that Executive Director Natalie Fave will be leaving as of August 15. Aviva Fleising will steer the organization as Interim Executive Director while the board searches for a new leader. Natalie will be missed.
Under Dance Ontario’s Connecting The Dots umbrella with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, several communities are gearing up for activities. Halton, Oakville and Mansfield will be holding a Connecting The Dots Forum in Oakville on September 24. The Milton Centre for the Arts, in collaboration with Milton Arts, will be holding events during CultureDays featuring talks with Dance Collection Dance’s Amy Bowring and workshops with Gadfly’s Ofilio Portillo as a forerunner of Gadfly’s performances later in the season. Sudbury are scheduling a mini on the Move Conference in collaboration with Dancer Transition Resource Centre, and CODE is in the planning stages of next year’s PULSE Conference to be held in North Bay: the first of its kind outside of Toronto. In London, plans for next year’s FLUX Contemporary Dance Festival to be funded in part by the Ontario Arts Council are under way. Dance Ontario’s report on last year’s conference – Phase 1 of the project – will be released in August.
