Aria Evans is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist working within film, dance creation and performance. She draws on her experiences as a woman of mixed race (Mi’kmaq) as well as her BFA (2012) to capture meaningful social and cultural themes through her interactive art. Aria is co-Artistic Director of hub14, co-founder of The Research Exchange and a collective member of us. Aria has toured with company Kaha:wi Dance Theatre, participated and performed in works by Julia Sasso, Peggy Baker, Sandra Laronde and Jock Soto, A Tribe Called Red, Susan Lee, Constance Cooke and Expect Theatre, to name a few. Aria has co-produced, choreographed and performed in two Fringe shows and presented her own choreographic work with the Harbourfront Centre’s Next Step Series – 60×60 Dance, Series 808 and Dance Ontario, Summer Works, Labspace Studio, Intergalactic Arts Collective, Rivoli Dances 4 and many more.
Aria’s work in video dance has led her to being Kaeja d’Dance’s resident videographer and editor. Independently she has collaborated with many of Toronto’s leading dance artists. Aria has also done videography and editing for Ryerson University, The Banff Centre, Dance Matters, CDA-ADC, YMI, Tziporah Productions and the Pulse Ontario Dance Conference, to name a few. Aria does videography and editing for Hop To It Productions Inc. whose documentary work premiers on Network Television where Aria has associate producer, editor, photographer and videographer credits.
