Founded in 1980 by Artistic Director Deborah Lundmark and Managing Director Michael deConinck Smith, Toronto-based Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre has staged more than 1,500 performances from Barrie to Beijing. CCDT performs one of Canada’s most diverse repertoires by leading international choreographers, from timeless revivals to cutting-edge premieres. Since 2000 the company’s Ontario Arts Access outreach initiative has introduced 200,000 young people to contemporary dance, from Windsor and Lion’s Head to Kapuskasing and Kenora. Hailed by the Globe and Mail as “a national treasure” … “among Toronto’s top dance companies”, CCDT represented Canada to critical acclaim at the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in Glasgow and recently performed José Limón’s iconic The Winged at the Limón International Dance Festival at New York’s storied Joyce Theater in celebration of the Limón Company’s 70th anniversary. Other highlights include the Toronto Arts Foundation’s Arts for Youth Award, appearances at Toronto’s Princess of Wales and Royal Alexandra Theatres, tours to Singapore, Malaysia and China, and five invitations to the Canada Dance Festival.
The company will present works by Sylvie Bouchard and Carol Anderson.
