- Can you tell us a little bit about your company/collective/school?
George Brown Dance is a partnership between Canada’s Ballet Jorgen and George Brown College. As a training institution George Brown Dance reflects the identity of its two parent organizations.
It is committed to ensuring student success by providing rigorous, high-quality dance training with professional standards and a broad academic focus for ambitious students seeking careers in dance.
Since 1992, George Brown College and Canada’s Ballet Jorgen have enjoyed an unprecedented partnership in the form of George Brown Dance, a dance school offering professional training for students of ballet and modern dance. Offering professional instruction in a dynamic and highly creative environment, George Brown Dance provides an optimum platform for students seeking a career in Toronto’s vibrant and world-renowned dance community or in the ever-expanding international market.
- What will you be showing at DanceWeekend?
We will be performing Speakeasy by Cynthia Macedo (first premiered at Unleashed 2017 – Betty Oliphant Theatre, April 2017 and an Unnamed Work (presently) by Hanna Kiel as part of our outreach in mentoring our graduates and bridging the gap between training to a working professional dancer.

4. What is one thing you love most about your dance community?
We are proud to be an integral part of the Canadian dance community. It is one with rich diversity and strong commitment, and we see our own self reflected. It is encouraging to be among such a strong tightly woven community, one that celebrates uniqueness yet pays reverence to its’ own history.
5. What does performing at the 25th Annual DanceWeekend mean to you?
Being able to join our community and share ourselves on stage, is rewarding for us as dancers, as well as we hope, inspiring for others.
6. What is one surprising/interesting fact about your company/collective/school?
This is third consecutive year performing at Dance Ontario, and it has quickly become one of our most exciting and anticipated events.
