42 days until DanceWeekend 25th Anniversary Edition!

We are excited to have the School of Toronto Dance Theatre perform on Saturday January 20 at 5:40pm!

 

1. Can you tell us a little bit about your company/collective/school?

The School of Toronto Dance Theatre has been at the forefront of dance training for 50 years. Our full-time, three-year, post-secondary Professional Training Program is delivered by world-renowned faculty and guest artists who are fully invested in fostering the next generation of dance artists. The program provides strong technical training through concentration on extensive studio work, well-rounded and challenging curriculum, and exceptional opportunities to create, collaborate, and perform. The graduates of the School are recognized as outstanding teachers, creators, and artistic leaders throughout Canada and around the world.

2. What will you be showing at DanceWeekend?  

             Second and third year dancers will be performing work from our exciting and dynamic mainstage show, IMPULSE 2017. (We’ll have specific details in December.)

3. Can you talk about your creative process? What inspires you?

Working with professional choreographers, our students are deeply immersed in the creation, re-creation, and interpretation of highly physical, exciting, and challenging work. They experience different choreographic practices, examine new and emerging trends, and become active participants and collaborators in the creative process.

4. Do you have any other up-coming performances/events you would like to share?

ambedo – choreographic workshop: new works by our third year students, February 9 &10, 2018;

Coffee House student-run production, March 2 & 3, 2018;

ACCELERATION 2018 – mainstage production:  small ensemble works performed by our graduating class, March 21-24, 2018.

5. What is one thing you love most about your dance community?

We are inspired by the great artists working in our city/community/province – they are breaking new creative ground, making bold artistic choices, and providing role models for the outstanding emerging artists in our program. Our numerous alumni, who have achieved national and international success in the performing arts and beyond, continue to inspire us every day.

6. What does performing at the 25th Annual DanceWeekend mean to you?

This is a great opportunity to celebrate with Dance Ontario, to give our dancers the chance to share their work with the community, and to experience the incredible array of dance happening in this wonderful province.

7. What is one surprising/interesting fact about your company/collective/school?

We are celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2018, and we’re delighted to be able to share this milestone year with our community.
