Join us at the theatre! DanceWorks is thrilled to present Morphs by Lina Cruz on March 31 – April 1 at the Fleck Dance Theatre. An insatiable movement storyteller, Lina Cruz creates a surprising world of mischievous dream-weavers. The Morphs are fairy-tale chefs, who cook up mischievous cuisine, drawing us into their world of illusion. Composing strange snippets of dreams, these creatures await the arrival of their sleepy clients. Multiple games, full of humour, delicately touch on the more disturbing aspects of life. Enigmatic and evasive, their intentions are charged with tenderness and an immense caring love.
About Lina Cruz
Known for her colourful imagination, Montreal choreographer Lina Cruz founded Fila 13 Productions in 2003. She has presented her work in festivals and events at local, national and international levels. Cruz is a two-time Dora Mavor Moore Award recipient for Outstanding Original Choreography (2012 and 2017) and was nominated for the same award in 2015.
Cruz has a background in ballet as much as modern/contemporary styles and takes interest in martial arts and various forms of stage expression. She has created works for independent artists as well as dance companies and institutions of professional dance training. Cruz is also often involved in theatre and opera projects. In her works, she explores complex physicality, detailed body language, sound and vocal expression, composing characters and sketches which portray an unsettling strangeness, but always hand in hand with a whimsical playfulness.
