Can you tell us a little bit about yourself/your company?
I am interested in collaboration as a cross pollination between art disciplines and practices.
What will you be sharing at DanceWeekend’22?
This film was created in collaboration with two amazing teachers and aerialists. The film was inspired by a multidisciplinary project in collaboration with Draught Horse Productions in which we teamed professional and emerging artists from diverse disciplines. In this case, filmmaker Caitlin McMannus was an emerging film artists who worked with us to create this piece.
How has the pandemic shifted your work as a professional dance artist?
Many things have changed in my dance practice. Perhaps one of the biggest ones is the lack of interest in commuting. Figuring out how to work with your local community is key, nurturing relationships will encourage a sustainable community.
Please share what you are most looking forward to at Dance Ontario’s return to live performances at DanceWeekend?
The live experience of energy exchange and the excitement to understand others perspectives from the offering of their work.
Do you have any up-coming performances/workshops/events you would like to share?
Yes, I will be part of circus sessions next week from June 5 to June 12 and will be presenting the work we will be developing with Choreographer and Director Angola Murdoch on June 11th. In July I will be filming my collaboration with Victoria Mata, Enlazadas. This will be showcased in January 2023 with other digital works from Vanguardia Dance Projects. I will publish a date closer to the time but I am also interested in offering a site-specific harness dance workshop in the trees. Look for it!
In 1 or 2 sentences, what does dance mean to you?
Dance is medicine.
