SOCAN Licenses

Teachers and Studio Owners, your Dance Ontario membership gives you access to a special negotiated rate for SOCAN licenses!

If you teach using recorded copyrighted music for your classes, you need a SOCAN license.  This allows you to legally use the music while making sure the composers are fairly compensated.

If you are already licensed through a syllabus organization like CDTA and/or PAEC in which SOCAN fees are covered through membership.

SOCAN licenses can be purchased online for Individual members of Dance Ontario. Group members please email [email protected] to purchase a license or multiple licenses for teachers.

The cost is $90 (incl. HST) annually.

License under Tariff 19 (physical exercise and dance instruction) Covers the use of recorded music for dance and fitness classes for 1 year wherever the individual is teaching. SOCAN licenses are valid from January 1 to December 31 each year.
