CBJ wins Professional Artist of the Year
The 5th Annual Markham Performing Arts Awards were held on September 10 at the Flato Markham Theatre. CBJ was honoured to receive the Professional Artist of the Year.
Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti presented the award saying “Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is an internationally respected touring ballet company and one of the only companies to take professional ballet productions to smaller communities across Canada and into the United States. They are community leaders, giving young dancers opportunities to perform ballet on stage with the Company.”
Since 1999 the Company has performed at the Flato Markham Theatre 57 times. This includes the World Premiere of Swan Lake in 2012. This season, the Company will perform in Markham 7 times, including four Ontario Premiere performances of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet™ in October and three The Nutcracker: A Canadian Tradition Performances in December. Last season the company had 27 performance, education and outreach activities in Markham.
