The Dance Current, published by Dance Media Group/Groupe Danse Média, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Morris to the position of Editor.

Morris is a Toronto-based editor, writer and researcher. She has worked as an editor at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories and Nelson Education. She holds a Master’s degree in English from the University of Glasgow and has recently submitted her doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford. A graduate of Etobicoke School of the Arts, she has danced non-professionally for most of her life and regularly takes workshops and classes in tap, hip hop, jazz and ballet in Toronto.

In January, David Levine joined the team as Publisher. This newly configured full-time position brings together business leadership, advertising, circulation and marketing. Levine is a Toronto-based writer, publisher and producer of print, digital and broadcast media who comes to the organization with a background in management and ad sales. Longtime staffer Brittany Duggan has taken on increased responsibilities in her new position as Managing Editor, a role that embraces the scope of her involvement in editorial and production, along with related management and administration.

After three years directing and developing editorial content for both print and online platforms, former Editor Kathleen Smith is moving on to new creative projects. In February, the organization also said goodbye to Sales and Marketing Manager Michael Ripley, who is focussing on his theatre career. The organization recognizes and thanks both Smith and Ripley for their incredible contributions to The Dance Current during their tenures.

Founding Editor Megan Andrews is stepping back from day-to-day operations, and will remain at the strategic helm in a part-time capacity as Executive Director. Says Andrews: “I’m very excited to welcome both Kate and David to the organization and to see Brittany take on more responsibility as we enter into this next phase of organizational development. I look forward to working with them to advance our vision and mission. And I must acknowledge our board of directors, production team, contributors and student interns who regularly go above and beyond to ensure The Dance Current is at the forefront of excellence as Canada’s dance magazine.”
