Important Notes for the 2022 Lottery
Due to the cancellation of the Festival in 2020, the 2022 Toronto Fringe Festival will be filled by a majority of deferred companies who were offered first-right-of-refusal slots in the next in-person festival. There are limited and waitlist only slots available for certain lottery categories.
For 2022 there will be no slots available for new applicants in International (permanently reside outside of Canada) or National (permanently reside outside of Ontario) categories.
For 2022 the following categories have available slots to apply for:
- Ontario 45-60 minutes
- Ontario 75-90 minutes (waitlist slots available only)
- KidsFest
- Dance
- Teen
- Senior
Applicants CANNOT apply to the following categories/lotteries:
- International 60/90 minutes
- National 60/90 minutes
- Accessible Lottery
- Culturally Diverse Artists Project Lottery
Toronto Fringe commits to reserving at least 50% of available slots in each lottery category for Indigenous, Black, or other racialized People of Colour (IBPOC) applicants. To achieve that goal, we’ve implemented the two-phase lottery draw as a measure to strengthen equity, diversity and inclusion at the Festival. We have implemented a phased lottery structure as a step to directly address some of the imbalances and gaps that exist in the demographics reflected on Fringe stages.
Each category’s draw will have two phases:
- PHASE ONE: Applicants who identify as Indigenous, Black, or a Person of Colour will be entered into the draw exclusively for the first 50% of available slots in the category.
- PHASE TWO: Once at least 50% of available slots are filled by IBPOC applicants, or if no more IBPOC applicants remain to draw from (whichever occurs first), the remaining slots will be drawn from all applicants in the category.
