Connect with Community in Moving Connections: Dancing Collected Stories
Passionate Community Members Guide Online Dance Program
TORONTO – Kaeja d’Dance’s team of Community Leaders and professional dancers facilitates Moving Connections: Dancing Collected Stories, a free online movement practice designed for all ages and mobility levels. Participants collaboratively create new movement experiences every Sunday from 10-11am EST on Zoom. Free workshops are running from March 27 until May 1; drop-ins are welcome and encouraged.
Moving Connections: Dancing Collected Stories allows participants to dance from the comfort and safety of home. While Kaeja d’Dance has always integrated community members in their choreographic creations, community is even more central than ever in this iteration of the Moving Connections Project, which is made possible through funding from the Community Foundations of Canada. A team of Community Leaders helps to facilitate the weekly workshops alongside Kaeja’s team of professional dancers. The Community Leaders also provide valuable feedback that helps to further shape the program. Many of these leaders were participants in previous Moving Connections workshops, and are individuals who have a passion for dance and giving back to the community.
“I respect [the Kaejas] and I trust them so I took the risk, just before COVID […] of joining their seniors’ classes at Dovercourt House. I have stayed involved with every project for senior dancers via ZOOM ever since. […] The most powerful feeling is one of joy and of connectivity with others in the most accepting and supportive inspiring experiences.” – Jane Deluzio, Community Leader
Dancing Collected Stories is the first iteration of Moving Connections that offers participants the opportunity to collaboratively create their own movement experiences. The movements created are based on uplifting personal stories and selections of poetry, prose, and song lyrics. New movement phrases are created every week for a unique experience.
The workshops are designed for all ages and mobility levels, and no previous dance experience is required. Adults ages 50+ are encouraged to participate. Committed to making their programming financially accessible during the pandemic, Kaeja d’Dance is pleased to continue to offer all Moving Connections sessions free of charge.
