Dance Masterclass with Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo
On May 17, dancers and choreographers will have the wonderful opportunity to explore different styles, perspectives, and the meanings behind First Nation’s dances with Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo, the award-winning Artistic Director of A’nó:wara Dance Theatre and choreographer of Sky Dancers.
Sky Dancers is a stunning piece by A’nó:wara Dance Theatre that explores the impacts of the Quebec Bridge disaster of 1907, which killed 33 Mohawk ironworkers from the community of Kahnawake. The Ontario premiere will be on stage at Fleck Dance Theatre May 20-22.
In this masterclass, Barbara will take inspiration from cultural perspectives and practices, combining the past, present and future to create an understanding of this land through dance.
