POWER OF HOPE PART 3

Power of Hope with Jayadev Raju (Bharatanatyam)

Hope [/hōp/] (noun):
a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.
“He began to dance in the hope of unleashing something magnificent.”

Hope is believing something will work, even in the face of uncertainty – it is a powerful force that can create a more beautiful world. In dance, hope can be an unstoppable fuel for the soul.

March 19 will mark the final performance of the series, with Ottawa’s own Jayadev Raju in his presentation titled “Maitrī, Benevolence in Traditional Movements”. Distinctly unique from Kathak and Odissi, but equally entrenched in devotion, this Bharatanatyam presentation embodies a true sense of hope. It is a true showcase of years of experience and creativity.

Presented by Upasana “The Spirit of Dance”, the POWER OF HOPE series of online virtual performances is a stunning showcase of the power of hope, mixed with passion and steeped in generations of dedication. Special thanks goes to Canadian Heritage for their support in bringing this series to life.

Tickets are available for $10 CAD ($8 USD) and the event begins at 7PM EST. Once you’ve registered, you will receive an email with the Zoom link for the day of the event. A reminder will be sent one hour before the event for your convenience.

About the Dancer:

Initiated by Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam (Chennai), Jayadev Raju pursued training with Kalarani Ramachandran (Madurai), and graduated under V. Krishnamoorthy (New Delhi). Jayadev premiered on the Canadian stage in Winnipeg with Manohar Performing Arts of Canada in 1999; since then, he has enjoyed rich exposure to dance techniques by taking on many leading roles in productions and recitals. Here in Ottawa, he is an active performer with Saveeta Sharma’s dance company, Upasana “The Spirit of Dance”. Some of his recent productions include Samskara (2017), Bhakti Pravaham (2018), Momentum (2019), Lokamata – The Universal Mother (2021), and most recently, he presented the first half of his Bharatanatyam Margam, a traditional solo performance.
