What will you be sharing at DanceWeekend’24?
Introducing the premiere of a contemporary film arts piece titled “Soulful Serenade (Melanin’s Anthem).” Presented by Melanin Mosaic Performance Ensemble, this captivating production merges the emotive and expressive qualities of soul music with the intimate and spiritual atmosphere of a serenade offered to our ancestors.
Drawing inspiration from the profound anthem “Lift Every Voice,” the performance seamlessly blends soulful singing, instrumental performances, dance, and marching arts into a harmonious tapestry. Led by artistic director Jarid Polite, this work invites the audience on an emotional journey that resonates deep within the heart, connecting them to the spiritual essence of the music and the resounding message of cultural pride.

What interests you about film as a medium and how does if differ from a live performance?
Capturing emotion is easier on film and gives you the ability to shape that emotion in ways you can’t via a live show.
What does dance mean to you?
Dance is one of the most honest forms of storytelling and should be respected as such.
