About Tracey Norman:
Tracey Norman (she/her) is an independent artist, spending her time as a choreographer, educator, performer, outside eye, writer, and mother of two young children. Based in Tkaronto, her love of movement developed in childhood while running through corn fields and jumping from haylofts on her family’s farm. Tracey’s choreography has been commissioned by numerous organizations including, DanceWorks Mainstage, Dance Ontario’s Creative Partnership Program, Dance Matters, Guelph Dance, and Kinetic Studio, performed in numerous festivals including, Nuit Blanche, Montreal Fringe, Toronto Fringe, and Festival de Danse en l’Atlantique, as well as self and co-produced across Canada. Her work has been described as “refreshing and original” (The Globe and Mail). Tracey is a resident artist of the Intergalactic Arts Collective (IGAC). She has been on contract faculty in the Department of Dance at York University for over a decade, following the completion of her MFA.
What will you be sharing at DanceWeekend’24?
An excerpt of “again again”, a new work for 8 dancers. Choreographed by Tracey Norman with sound designed by Gregory Reid.
How has the pandemic shifted your work as a professional dance artist?
I have a renewed hunger and appreciation for dance. I am moved to create large ensemble works after the shift away from being together.
Please share what you are most looking forward to at DanceWeekend?
I look forward to sharing work with a wide audience and to seeing the work of others. It’s an accessible performance weekend and one that my kids can watch.
In 1 or 2 sentences, what does dance mean to you?
Dance is a constant in my life. It has meant the development of so many ideas and so many important relationships
