Guelph Dance is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Guelph Community Foundation in support of its Workshops in Schools program.  The $2,500 grant will place dance teaching artists and percussionists in several Guelph public schools this Fall and Winter.  Outreach Artistic Director Janet Johnson will oversee the program, which, along with Guelph Dance’s March and Summer Arts Explosion Camps, is a key piece of Guelph Dance’s outreach work.

The Guelph Community Foundation made its grant announcements on Wednesday, October 14 at the River Run Centre.  More than 25 area organizations were recipients of more than $75,000.  Guelph Dance is proud to be part of this impressive group of grantees.

The Workshops in Schools program places teaching artists in underserved schools so that elementary students have the opportunity to self-reflect, gain self-knowledge, and interact in meaningful, non-verbal ways. Dance is an excellent way for kinaesthetic learners to integrate what they are taught in the regular classroom. Guelph Dance is seeking additional funding opportunities in order to expand the program to more schools.
