HALTON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD'S ANNUAL DANCE FESTIVAL "FLORESCENCE" CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY
FRIDAY, APRIL 29TH FROM 8:30AM TO 2:30PM
QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL CENTRE
2302 BRIDGE ROAD, OAKVILLE (BRONTE)

Students and teachers from Grade Six to Twelve are invited to attend the event (usually we have approximately 250 in attendance representing over twelve schools). The day starts with registration, whole group warm-up and a keynote address. Students will then participate in two technique workshops from a variety of disciplines: bhangra/bollywood, contemporary, flamenco, hiphop, modern, music theatre, rhythm and tap, tribal cardio. After the workshops we have a show 'n' share session followed by a lunch break. In the afternoon the HDSB teachers take over using the Ministry of Education Dance Curriculum. Every year we select a theme which is workshopped by eight groups (mixed ages) to create movement pieces. Then all the groups return to perform into a single piece. This year's theme is "PEACE". Feedback over the years has always focussed on how moving the experience of performing together becomes. A great day watching all these students, teachers and clinicians dancing with open hearts!
