The Opportunity
Citadel + Compagnie is seeking to hire a General Manager for a 12-month maternity leave contract (with potential for extension) starting December 2, 2024. Working in close collaboration with and reporting to the Artistic Director, eligible candidates must possess a passion for the arts and belief in the intrinsic value of artists and their pursuits. Responsible for contracting, communications, website management, grant writing, fundraising, board coordination and oversight of 4 part-time administrative staff, this full-time position requires an understanding and deep appreciation of the dance community and desire to serve as part of a dedicated artist-led team.
Job Responsibilities
Administration and Operations
• Manage and coordinate a dynamic team consisting of 3 full-time and 4 part-time staff to ensure clear and timely communication of organizational plans and activities, define expectations of roles and responsibilities, and empower team members with the tools and information required to succeed in their positions.
• Create and distribute contracts for all staff, artists, designers and collaborators and liaise with appropriate unions when required including Associated Designers of Canada and Actor’s Equity.
• Assist with touring and performance agreements for dance company engagements and co-production and presentation agreements for artists and partners engaged in Citadel LIVE programming.
• Work with Artistic Director and Production Manager to develop and communicate project information and schedules with artists, residency program participants and project partners.
• Support Box Office Coordinator with management of Citadel LIVE ticket sales and promotions.
• Keep detailed records of all organizational activities and accompanying statistics.
• Keep accurate account of artist schedules and hours to support payroll.
• Coordinate all Board activities including scheduling regular meetings and enlisting specific member support for strategic initiatives and fundraising activities.
Marketing and Communications
• Collaborate with Audience Engagement Coordinator on development of marketing and communications content plan, digital marketing strategy, cross-promotion, and special invitations to Citadel LIVE programming.
• Write, create and distribute regular digital newsletter communications.
• Create and disseminate press releases and engage press and media for interviews, previews and reviews of dance company activities.
• Regularly update website content to reflect upcoming programming and news with the support of Programs Coordinator.
• Coordinate support of web developer when maintenance issues arise.
Development
• In collaboration with Artistic Director secure and report on all operational and project grant funding from government funders, foundations, corporate sponsors and donors and participate in strategic organizational visioning in support of long-term funding applications.
• Assist with financial and statistical reporting through CADAC.
• Seek, identify and apply for new sources of funding.
• Support the development and execution of all fundraising initiatives including fundraising campaigns, corporate sponsorship and foundation development, private donations and special events.
• Maintain ongoing communication with donors.
• Keep detailed donation records and issue charitable tax receipts for manual donations (not made through CanadaHelps or Tickit).
Qualifications and Experience
• 2+ years of experience as General Manager or related position in the dance, theatre, or performing arts milieu.
• Ability to both lead and work as a collaborative team member essential.
• Capacity to remain adaptive and resilient in response to the evolving needs of the organization and sector.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Experience in development, particularly in the areas of corporate fundraising and foundation requests a major asset.
• Fluency in French a bonus.
• Familiarity with the following tools and systems of benefit: Mailchimp, WordPress, Tickit, CanadaHelps, CADAC.
Pay and Benefits
Full-Time*
40 hours per week
$55,000 – $65,000 / year (commensurate with experience)
*Open to job sharing proposals and flexible work hours.

Citadel Dance Exchange brings together Toronto and Montreal artists, building bridges between communities and promoting dialogue between artists and the public.
Established in 2012, the Citadel Dance Program, cultivates dance within C+C’s immediate neighbourhood, delivering free dance education to local youth, making dance accessible and visible to those living within Regent Park.
