Through our innovative approach, we strive to redefine what dance can be and who can be a dancer, creating transformative experiences for our artists and audiences alike.Job Description Propeller Dance is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and compassionate Company Manager to lead the coordination and management of our inclusive contemporary dance company. This role is ideal for someone who is an experienced instructor of contemporary dance practices, and who possesses a strong background in arts administration, organizational skills, and leadership. The successful candidate will ensure smooth operations of the Company, support the professional development of dancers, and champion access and inclusion within the arts community.SALARY AND OTHER INFORMATION Application Details: o Interested candidates with 75% of the listed qualifications and skill set are encouraged to apply. o The application deadline is December 19 2024, at 12pm EST with a preferred start date of January 13, 2025. o The position is a contract position for 20 weeks at 28 hours a week with the possibility of extension. The contractor will be paid a rate of $30-$34 an hour, based on experience. This position does not include employment deductions or benefits. Work Arrangements: o The Company Manager is expected to lead all rehearsals (twice a week) plus all rehearsals and performances during production weeks as directed by Artistic Director. o Outside of in-person rehearsals and production, the Company Manager will have flexibility to work remote or from Propeller’s office, and to set their own hours.
Key Responsibilities: Company Management (Communications, Coordination) • Provide leadership and strategic direction in collaboration with the Artistic Director for the selection of dancers, guest performers, and repertoire. • Coordinate and manage the Company’s schedule, ensuring regular communication with the team and their support network, including weekly updates, class Zoom links, and reminders. • Organize Company meetings and gatherings. • Update and maintain all Company policy documents annually, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations, including AODA and workplace safety standards. • Develop and maintain a Company/support professional protocol manual. • Hire and manage support staff and access needs for rehearsals and performances. • Ensure all events and programs are inclusive and accessible. • Conduct performance evaluations for dancers and provide feedback and support. • Oversee the Company budget, approving and tracking company and guest invoices.
Training Company & Managing Classes • Plan the training program, coordinating with our Outreach and Diversity Coordinator to secure guest teachers and ensuring the program meets the Company’s goals. • Lead and organize high-skills inclusive dance Company classes, ensuring active participation and keeping dancers focused on personal goals and Company objectives. • Book rehearsal and class spaces, ensuring they meet the Company’s needs.Rehearsal Direction • Organize and lead rehearsals, fostering an environment of participation and creativity. • Ensure dancers remain engaged and performance-ready.Performance Planning/Booking • Liaise with venue and theatre staff to organize rehearsals and performances, ensuring all technical and accessibility needs are met. • Work with dancers and staff to secure performance opportunities, ensuring mutual agreement and planning.Organizational Support • Attend weekly administrative staff meetings. • Gather and share photos, texts, and videos for communication and archival purposes, including uploading materials to Vimeo. • Participate in organizational events, such as strategic planning and team-building activities.Outreach • Support the Outreach Coordinator by providing dancer availability, rehearsal scheduling, and creative input for outreach programs. • Participate in outreach, educational engagements, and community initiatives as needed.Mentorship • Keep the Company engaged by sharing opportunities for ongoing training, wellness initiatives, and performances, particularly those related to arts and disability-related events. • Oversee Company element of Mentorship Programme in collaboration with Education Manager.
Key Skills & Qualifications • 3+ years of experience in an administrative or production positions within a cultural or performing arts organization. • Strong background in performing and teaching contemporary dance • Proven leadership skills, with vision and a demonstrated ability to guide the artistic development of a company or project. • Strong organizational skills with a participatory and ethical approach, and a firm belief in inclusivity. • Experience working with people of different abilities and neurodiversity, including physical, developmental, cognitive, and psychosocial disabilities. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • French language skills are a plus, but not required.
