Join the Community Cast of “Ahead by a Century”
All ages and abilities. No experience necessary!

The community dancer cast will include volunteers of all ages and all experience levels. They will perform outdoors in either the “Book Bop” at Carson Library, or the “Pirate Battle” at Lorne Ave Park as part of “Ahead by a Century: A London Childhood 100 Years Ago” on September 21 & 22. The Book Bop is a very simple and super adaptable dance designed for community participants of all abilities. The Pirate Battle is an active dance number with a variety of roles for different family members. Learn more about both dances on our website www.centreofmovement.ca

Community cast dancers will be committing to 2-3 hours of preparation, plus one or both of the two performance days. Dancers will prepare by learning the dance in a workshop (1-2 hours) and will be provided with a video to help them learn and practice the moves at home. Then they’ll come together with the core cast for an on-site dress rehearsal (1-2 hours) will be held the week of September 16th (date and time TBA). The performance-tour will take place from 11am-12pm and 1-2pm on September 21 and 22. Community cast dancers may choose to participate in one or both days.

To participate in the community cast, please fill out the form on our website and choose one or more workshops to learn the moves. Then perform alongside the professional cast in September!

London Heritage Council & Centre of Movement Arts present:
Ahead by a Century: A London Childhood 100 Years Ago by Bizz Varty
Sept 21-22 2024, tours begin at 11am & 1pm in Old East Village

A historical walking tour animated with dance performances, this project tells a travelling story about the childhood of Audrey Varty. It’s 1924 when 7-year-old Audrey gets her first library card and opens a book to embark on a high seas adventure with her neighbourhood friends. As they sail around the world (and through OEV) they encounter dances from far-away places and fight pirates before returning home in time for tea. Directed by Bizz Varty, this site-specific dance theatre experience will feature contemporary, Flamenco and Bellydance by London artists and be performed by multi-generational dance artists alongside community volunteers. You can learn lots more about the project at www.centreofmovement.ca/doors-open-24.
