Dance Ontario’s 26th edition of Dance Weekend features 25 professional dance companies, with over 350 dancers and musicians, with performances including Ballet, Bellydance, Flamenco, Contemporary, Bharatanatyam, Korean and Urban Dance.
PLUS commissioned world premieres from two of Toronto’s most exciting choreographic voices through Dance Ontario’s Creative Partnership program.
Makeda Estrella Benitez will collaborate with Bahram Aghakhan and Persamenco, a Toronto-based Persian-derived musical ensemble for Dentro, taken from flamenco’s inward turn of the hands, a gesture of welcoming and drawing in. In this dance, they welcome each other’s creative voices as fellow travelers and invite audiences to step inside the work to feel the power of duende, the flamenco spirit.
Together across decades to dance this earth, Decades Collective spans generations with inspiration from global roots, taking diversity to another level through artists Sashar Zarif, Maxine Heppner, Mi Young Kim, Mafa Makhubalo, Jennifer Dallas, and Atri Nundry. The collective creation will imprint "land", "home", and "belonging" on Toronto audiences. “Together across decades to dance this earth”
