The Korean Dance Studies Society Canada (KDSSC) is dedicated to preserving and evolving Korean dance in Canada. Founded by Mi Young Kim in 1979, it has grown into a leading organization that blends tradition with contemporary influences. Through professional performances, educational programs, and community workshops, KDSSC makes Korean dance accessible to all while training the next generation of artists. The organization also hosts the Soo Ryu Dance Festival, a biannual event showcasing renowned artists and fostering cultural exchange. What will you be sharing at DanceWeekend’25
A Korean Fan Dance performance with live Janggo (Korean drum) music that will invite viewers to connect with the artistry of this dance form through audience participation. Led by dancer Dorothy Leung, spectators will learn a few simple steps of this elegant dance, allowing them to join in at a special moment of the performance. Following the dynamic rhythm of the Janggo played by Artistic Director Mi Young Kim, this piece will celebrate Korean culture and tradition through dance and immerse the audience in its beauty.

We’re excited to share one of the most recognizable Korean dance forms with the audience in a way that makes them more familiar with the movement and allows them to connect with this dance regardless of their background.
