Irma Villafuerte (she/her) is a Salvadorian-Canadian Dora Award–nominated dance artist, choreographer, performer, educator, and multidisciplinary creator based in Tkaronto/Toronto. She is the co-founder of CinnaMoon Collective and Program Director of the Animikiig Creators Unit at Native Earth Performing Arts. Her artistic practice spans contemporary dance, theatre, and interdisciplinary performance, exploring migration, cultural and historic memory, diasporic Central American identity through embodied storytelling.
As a creator and performer, Villafuerte has presented work throughout Canada and internationally in Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, El Salvador, and the United States. Her choreographic work, including Xilopango, investigates matrilineal memory, displacement, and Salvadorian land-based histories. As a performer, she has collaborated with Kaha:wi Dance Theatre, Kaeja d’Dance, Victoria Mata Productions, Teatro Línea de Sombra, and Vanguardia Dance Projects, among others. Her work centres community, cultural resilience, and the transformative power of performance as a space for connection, remembrance, and collective imagination.
