BIOGRAPHY: REBECCA DEVI LEONARD

Aerialist, actor, and choreographer, Rebecca Leonard, has performed locally and internationally with circus companies across Canada: Green Fools, Les Filles aux Lit, Hangtime, Circus Orange, HighStrung, Cirque Sublime, Cirque Eos, Lookup Theatre, Anti-Gravity. Feature film credits: The Tuxedo and Chicago.  Honours graduate, Ryerson Theatre School, Rebecca has choreographed for numerous theatre productions and her aerial performances have been featured at events including the Calgary Stampede, Fashion Cares, Just for Laughs Festival, Toronto Film Festival, CNE, and Vancouver Comedy Festival. In 2003 she founded A Girl In The Sky Productions, a theatrical circus company using circus as one of the main story telling elements. In 2014, she began working collaboratively with Thin Edge New Music Collective, a groundbreaking group of contemporary musicians, creating transformative and compelling interdisciplinary works dovetailing contemporary circus, music, theatre and dance featuring Canadian artists in Balancing on the Edge and a second show “Anthropic Traces” that premiered in July 2022 to media praises. She is a collaborator with Diana Lopez, award winning ad-hoc collective ‘Healing Roots Movement’ investigating aerial dance in natural environments. She has recently been the aerial consultant to the Lonely Child Project, a circus and contemporary opera creation and Artistic Doula for Tupiq ACT, an emerging Inuit circus troupe from Nunavik and most recently directed the creation for Team Nunavik in the Arctic Winter Games 2023.
