“A highly respected entrepreneur and philanthropist, Pierre Lassonde holds a deep conviction of the importance of the arts in the lives of individuals and nations. He is well known for his ability to analyze and understand the risks and, even more so, the opportunities of the business world. His knowledge, considerable experience and creativity will serve him well in the role of Chair of the Canada Council, addressing the challenges related to the public funding of the arts, said Simon Brault, Canada Council Director and CEO.
“The Canada Council and its Board of Directors are engaged in a process of transformation designed to scale up the impact of our investments to support the creation and sharing of Canadian art and literature at home and abroad. I also want to thank Vice Chair Nathalie Bondil for her leadership as she assumed the duties of the Chair in these last few months.”
