The increase to Tariff 6.B since its inception now exceeds 30% in just 10 years, and more than 18% over the previously set 2012 Tariff.
In its Reasons, the Copyright Board has removed its reservations about how this will impact the Dance Community. The legal advice received indicates that this is likely because there was no formal complaint issued after the Settlement Tariff was implemented.
Current legal advice is that there is a strong case to request Intervenor status on the on-going discussions of Tariff 6.B from the Copyright Board of Canada and to request an interim decision to lower the most recent rates payable based on affordability.

Given the costs (estimated at $100,000 if handled by a lawyer or up to $10,000 if taken forward by a group of interested parties i.e. dance associations etc.), much thought must go into how we proceed. Most dance associations do not have the funding to contribute significantly or, indeed, at all.
