Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Banff, AB
June 7–26, 2027 | Application deadline: November 18, 2026
Learn and perform Colossus, Stephanie Lake’s work for 50+ dancers. Since its 2018 premiere in Australia, Colossus has been performed in 17 countries by nearly 1,000 dancers. For the first time, the Banff production of Colossus invites dancers from across the globe to learn and perform the work.
Over three weeks, dancers work with Stephanie Lake Company’s artistic team to learn the Colossus movement language (precision, rhythm, task-based creation, vocalization and structured improvisation) and build the ensemble skills the work demands. The intensive moves from studio rehearsal to full technical integration and ends in two fully produced public performances at Banff Centre on June 25 and 26, 2027.
Faculty: Stephanie Lake (Artistic Director), Nicole Muscat (Lead Rehearsal Director) and Sarah McCrorie (Rehearsal Director).
Who should apply: Emerging, early-career and contemporary dancers with strong contemporary training or equivalent experience. Applicants must be 18+ by the program start date. Canadian and international applicants are welcome, and past Colossus dancers may apply.
Scholarships: Banff Centre Arts Scholarships are available. Canadian Indigenous artists are eligible for full tuition, accommodation and meals.
To apply: Submit a cover letter (up to 500 words) and a one-minute video of your dancing.
