A bit about Emod: Emod Vafa is an acclaimed dance artist, Sufi Whirling Dervish, and staunch advocate for Persian and Middle Eastern culture based in Toronto. His decade-long artistic journey has cultivated a deep connection with Sufi traditions and the teachings of Rumi that distinctly influence his dance mastery.
By organizing and starring in cultural events across Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, Emod demonstrates strong community ties and an unwavering commitment to expanding public platforms showcasing Middle Eastern and Sufi artistic voices. He leverages digital marketing skills to prominently promote local musicians and artists, uplifting voices within Canada’s Iranian diaspora.
Emod’s drive to join DanceOntario’s board stems from a firm belief in dance as a conduit for spiritual awakening, cultural bridge-building, and intercultural harmony. He brings multifaceted expertise as an acclaimed performer, community unifier, marketer, and event planner to advance DanceOntario’s mission. Specifically, Emod seeks to provide leadership elevating Middle Eastern and Muslim dance perspectives within Ontario’s diverse artistic landscape. With an inclusive outlook and aspiration to create ever-widening opportunities for dance to enrich lives, Emod views dance as a vehicle for cultural exchange, personal growth, and communal healing.
